Things to Come
"And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."
Revelation 21:4 (NKJV)
Revelation 21:4 (NKJV)
Oh, the day when we will be with God in the new heavens and new earth! I can’t think of a more satisfying thought than to be in the place where God dwells with His people forever.
This passage reveals a small glimpse of this wonderful place. Consider all of the weeping, mourning, crying, sorrow, and pain that believers have experienced since the beginning of time and then ponder these wonderful words in Revelation that state it will all be wiped away. I can’t even imagine what it will be like to have God Himself wiping away tears from my eyes, but it sure sounds delightful. The fact that He will be doing that Himself speaks of His compassion and love for us as His creation.
I can’t help but think of such difficult things such as losing a loved one. It brings so much grief and tears. It leaves such a whole in our hearts that it is difficult to describe what one feels in mourning. Even Jesus, in his humanity, wept at the death of Lazarus. But how wonderful it is that those tears will be wiped away by God and that sorrow will be no more!
God doesn’t just provide forgiveness of sins and eternal life, but He cares for us in such a way that He wants to take away our pain as well. What a wonderful God we serve!
May you be encouraged today as you are reminded of how much God loves you, how much He has provided for you, and what you have to look forward to in the new heavens and the new earth. As a believer, all your sorrow, tears, and pain will be no more.
