Call Upon Jesus

“On the same day, when evening had come, He said to them, ‘Let us cross over to the other side.’”
Mark 4:35 (NKJV)
As the disciples climb into the boat at the command of their Master and begin to make their way across the Sea of Galilee a great storm came upon them.  Waves began to crash over into the boat and His disciples became fearful.  What did they do?  They awoke Jesus, who was in the boat with them and He brought calm to the storm and they reached the other side.
Dear reader, you may be facing a terrible storm in life right at this very hour.  If so, be comforted by this text.  Just as Jesus was in the boat with His disciples in the storm so He is present with you.  He promised His followers to never leave them or forsake them and indeed, if you call upon His name you are His follower as well.  He is with you.
Don’t forget the promises of the Master.  If Jesus said it, then the thing He spoke is as good as done.  Jesus had told these disciples that they would “cross over” to the other side, that means there is no way they could have gone under.  There are many promises in the scripture that we would do well to cling to.  Search for them in His Word and may He give you wisdom and understanding in your situation.  Jesus doesn’t always save us from harm, death, or difficulty, but He does promise to work in our lives through those difficulties and to give us peace as we bring our cares to Him in prayer.  Perhaps the greatest comfort we have is the hope of eternal life with Him.  Let’s not forget these wonderful promises.
If you find yourself fearful because the waves are crashing into your boat, then call on the name of Jesus and receive His peace in your heart.
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth
Will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace
