Words to Treasure
“10 But He knows the way that I take;
When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold.
11 My foot has held fast to His steps;
I have kept His way and not turned aside.
12 I have not departed from the commandment of His lips;
I have treasured the words of His mouth
More than my necessary food."
Job 23:10-12

There is a path, that when taken, shapes a person’s heart into something precious and beautiful. Jesus called it the “narrow way”. Yes, it is difficult, but it’s reward is great. This path is outlined for us in the Holy Scriptures. It is the one thing that will withstand the sands of time and endure to the end. The prophet Isaiah said that “the grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God stands forever.”
Do you know this path? Have you followed these instructions? Have you cherished God’s Word with every fiber of your being? Has it been the thing that drives you, motivates you, and fills you every day? Have you allowed it to be your instruction manual for everyday living? Is your house built on His word? Have you purposed in your heart, like Joshua, that you and your house will serve the Lord? Like Job, has God’s Word been treasured more than food?
A house that is built on the solid rock of His Word will be the one standing when the storms of this life come to an end.

"Here is the spring where waters flow,
To quench our heat of sin:
Here is the tree where truth doth grow,
To lead our lives therein..."

Let us cling to the elegant love letter of His Word that we may be found at the end as gold refined in the fire.
