Our Story

Go therefore and make disciples...

How it all started...

In 1986, Pastor Robert and his wife, Juanita, came alongside Pastor Juan Espinoza and started Calvary Fellowship of Rio Rancho. In 1987, Calvary Fellowship was meeting in the “Rio Rancho Twin Cinema” under the leadership of Pastor Juan Espinoza. This same year Pastor Robert came on as the Calvary Fellowship Children’s Pastor.
In the spring of 1987 Pastor Robert Hall became the Senior Pastor of Calvary Fellowship of Rio Rancho after Pastor Juan and his wife were called to Seattle.
By September of 1987, attendance had dropped from 60 to 17 people. From 1987 to 1992, the church struggled with an attendance ranging from 17-100 people, migrating to eight different locations. In 1992, Pastor Robert met with Skip Heitzig of Calvary Chapel of Albuquerque. Skip prayed with him and suggested that he change the name of the church to “Calvary Chapel Rio Rancho”, as well as move from their location to a more public location at which time they moved into a daycare center on Golf Course Road. After they moved into the daycare center, the fellowship grew to a steady 100 people. Then in 1994 the church moved back into the “Rio Rancho Twin Cinema”, where it grew to 160 people.
In 1995, Pastor Robert left his landscaping business and came on full-time as the Senior Pastor of Calvary Chapel of Rio Rancho. In November of 1995, the church moved to its present location in an old National Guard Armory on Highway 528. By November of 1996, the church had grown to 450 people and the following November to 600. In 2005, the Lord provided the opportunity for the church to purchase the building.
In 2008, the Board of Directors approved an extensive remodel of the building, of which we received the Certificate of Occupancy on August 13, 2009.
In 2010, The Lord blessed us with a beautiful outdoor baptismal. Since then 182 people have made a public declaration of their faith in Jesus Christ.
The Lord continues to give the increase. There are now over 900 people who worship, fellowship, and grow in the Lord together here at Calvary Rio Rancho. If you do not currently have a home church, we would love for you to join our church family and grow in Christ together.

Where we are headed...

As we’ve made some changes in leadership, our direction as a church has changed as well. Our heart is to start within our own body here at Calvary, taking care of our fellowship needs and branching out from there. We believe that we need to have a solid family, a solid fellowship of people that love the Lord and love one another. Our goal is to provide ministry to our body of believers and spread that love into the community.  As the Lord leads and provides we plan to get more involved in local missions. What an awesome God we serve!
